UCAS stands for Universities and Colleges Admission Service. It is the principal institution responsible for processing nearly all applications to higher education in the United Kingdom. UCAS seeks to make it easy for students to apply to any university in the United Kingdom.
UCAS offers an easy-to-use application system for both undergraduate and postgraduate applications, and it is used by both domestic and international students seeking to study in the United Kingdom.
UCAS application help for international students
While it is straightforward, filling out your UCAS applications can be intimidating, particularly for overseas students seeking to study in the United Kingdom. That is why our specialist counselors at Anglo Healthcare Recruitment offer a free service to help overseas students navigate the complete application process.
Our specialists will walk you through each stage, from choosing the courses you wish to study to preparing and filling out the necessary documents to submitting your application on time.
It's worth noting that UCAS personal statements will change starting in September 2025, with applicants being asked three structured questions instead of a 4000-word essay.
Before beginning a UCAS application, ensure you meet the registration eligibility conditions. To apply via UCAS, applicants must have:
• Completed or presently finishing secondary education
• Meet entry requirements for chosen courses and colleges
• Provide evidence of English language proficiency (if required by universities). International students should have a valid passport or ID.
Applying to UK institutions through UCAS consists of multiple steps:
• Conduct research to identify courses and universities that align with your academic interests and career ambitions.
• Register: Create a UCAS account to begin your application.
•Fill out the application. Enter your personal information, academic credentials, and course selections.
• Prepare a UCAS Personal Statement: Create a compelling personal statement highlighting your abilities, successes, and motivations for applying.
• Submit references. Provide scholarly references.
• Pay the application fee: Complete the payment process.
· Submit your application by the deadline.
Living expenditures in the UK can be pretty high depending on where you study, so you must plan and budget for your daily necessities. If you stay in London, prices will be higher than if you live further north or in a country other than England.
Here's an overview of how much daily essentials can cost in the UK:
• Food: A restaurant meal can cost up to £25, whereas a weekly grocery budget of £50 is usually sufficient for home cooking.
• Plan to spend approximately £35 per month on study materials, including textbooks and supplies.
• Mobile and internet: Although numerous prepaid options and student discounts are available to assist down costs, monthly phone bills typically run between £40 and £46.
• TV License: A TV license costs about £160 a year if you want to watch live TV. You do not need one to access streaming services like Netflix or Disney+.
Cooking at home, taking advantage of student discounts, and locating inexpensive study resources can all help students stay within their budget.
UCAS application fees are as follows:
- Single Choice: £22
- Multiple Choices: £26.50 (up to five options).
To submit your UCAS application, make sure you have adequately prepared the required documents:
• Academic transcripts and certificates
• English language proficiency test scores (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL)
• Personal statement
• Passport or ID
• Reference letters
UCAS Extra is a service for applicants who have already made five choices and have no offers. Students can apply for additional courses using this service.
UCAS Extra runs from late February to early July and allows you to secure a place at university if your first applications were unsuccessful.
If you have yet to make your first choice or have changed your mind about the course you want to do, clearing might be a fantastic way to explore new options. Clearing begins after A-level results are revealed, allowing students to interact with colleges with available spots.
While clearing can provide some excellent chances, we do not recommend using it to secure a position at a university because there is no certainty that your preferred university/course will have spots available.
