The majority of students begin their studies at UK institutions in September. Thousands of students from all over the world will travel to the UK to start their studies, whether they are undergraduates, postgraduates, or enrolled in a foundation program.
Application deadlines for the 2025 intake range from October 2024 to January 2025, with most undergraduate deadlines coming within these dates. This intake is the most popular time to begin studying for a degree at a British university. It features the most academic options and financial aid choices, and you'll start with a large group of other new students, making it an ideal time to build friends and connections.
While there is always the potential of applying late, the best course of action is to begin your application process as soon as possible - like today! You'll be significantly more likely to get a spot and experience less stress. Additionally, several scholarships and bursaries are awarded during the UK September entry. There's a reason why now is the most popular time to start.
The September intake in the UK often begins (unsurprisingly) in late September. Most universities in the United Kingdom have started their academic year. The application deadlines for this intake vary. The September intake deadline for undergraduate studies is January 29 of the same year. The deadline for medical, dental, and veterinary courses, as well as all Oxford and Cambridge applications, is October 15 of the previous year.
Starting your application as early as possible is always a wise decision because it allows you plenty of time to ensure that all of your paperwork is done correctly. And if you have any questions regarding the procedure, our knowledgeable counselors are here to help!
Starting your studies in September provides a few advantages:
• Wider course selection: September provides a diverse range of courses, allowing you to study what you want and where you want.
• More financial support: Scholarships and bursaries are available for the September intake, helping students who plan to pay for their own studies.
• Opportunities for internships and part-time work: Starting early in the academic year can provide essential practical experience.
• Enjoy a whole campus experience by starting with the primary cohort and participating in events and groups.
While the UK's September intake is a popular choice with many benefits, there are a few drawbacks to consider:
• Higher demand for spaces and housing due to the September start date for most students. It may be more challenging to acquire a spot-on famous course, and there may be more competition for on-campus housing and private rentals.
• High demand for resources: With a large number of students starting in September, university facilities such as libraries, study spaces, and academic advising services may be busier than usual, particularly at the start of the semester.
• Universities host welcoming parties, social gatherings, and club fairs in September to help students settle in. These can be a terrific way to create relationships, but the sheer volume can be a little overwhelming for overseas students trying to integrate into a new environment. That way, you'll have plenty of time to explore any courses or universities that interest you, as well as prepare your application and supporting paperwork for any scholarships or financial aid for which you qualify. It will also give you plenty of time to apply for a student visa and arrange any travel papers.
Getting everything organised early might save stress and increase your chances of getting into your selected university.
We generally recommend starting your application a year in advance (if possible!). That way, you'll have plenty of time to investigate institutions and courses, obtain all necessary paperwork, and apply for any available scholarships.
If you're an overseas student looking to study in the UK, you'll need to make sure you've filed for your student visa correctly. Visa approval rates have recently decreased due to poorly filled applications; therefore, working with one of our counselors will provide you with much-needed peace of mind. You may be confident that your application will be processed correctly, and your chances of approval will be increased.
If you've missed the deadline, don't panic! Fortunately, there are still several solutions available to you!
• UCAS Clearing allows students without an offer to apply for available study slots at UK universities.
• Consider different intakes: Many UK universities offer January and May intakes. Look at our simple course search to see when else you can study your preferred subject.
• Consider another university: Some may still have spaces available after formal deadlines. However, this is not a reliable option.
• If there are no available possibilities, use the extra time to prepare your application for the following year's intake.
• Book a call with us to receive some help. Our British Council-trained counselors are all specialists in UK universities and can help. Book a complimentary call today and get ahead with Anglo!
